It’s always good to get involved in charity. It’s even better when that means getting involved in having great fun! A week today, on Sunday May 27th, The Twa Tams (the venue which has made Smashed possible) is doing just that. Our favourite Fair City local will be playing host to an air guitar competition, to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Not only will willing participants be able to throw down their best axe-work impressions, but the evening also offers live performances from both The Purple Felts and Echo Park, plus a warm up set courtesy of Alyson Bell and Jamie McHale.
Competition entrants will be judged on the following criteria: accuracy, flamboyance, and costume. It does cost £5 to enter, but the winner will take away a tasty £50 prize! But be quick! You have to register by this Tuesday!!! (May 22nd). After that, the cost of entry goes up by £1 more, but is open until the day of the event. There will only be a max of ten spaces! Just drop into The Twa Tams to sign up. You can pick any song, but you must be over 18 years of age, and will be required to sign a small disclaimer, in case you cut yourself cutting shapes.
If you just want to come down to support Macmillan Cancer Support, or have a laugh at the expense of your braver friends, the organisers will be asking everyone for a £1 donation to the charity at the door. For three live sets and some guaranteed entertainment, that sounds like a very good deal!
N.B. Slow Dragon Music is not officially involved in this event. We’re just here to help out a good cause!
