The legendary Dragon Fire scours through the Earth once more, unearthing the latest campfire tales.

Aklias – Perpetual

Northern Scots upstarts, Aklias, have undergone a little bit of a re-invention of sorts recently. They are bigger, tougher, and meaner than ever before! It’s a pure delight to behold their new breed of animal, as you can see below, in standalone single. Perpetual (14/06/24). We asked if they have plans for an album or EP to follow, but no such luck. Guess we’ll just have to be patient. Booo!

Aklias say “Perpetual is easily our heaviest and most ‘in your face’ song to date. We’ve spent alot of time and effort getting this out and so far the overall reception has been very positive! We’re very excited to show everyone what we’ve got in stock for the future so we hope we gain some new fans who’ll come along with us for the journey!

Werewolves – Spittle Flecked Rant

As always, Werewolves drop absolute fire with this new track. This salivating slab of brutality is a short sharp smash o the jaw, and maybe a little more ‘punky’ than what we’ve come to expect from these Aussie death metallers. But it still does the job! It comes from their fifth album, Die For Us, which came out on July 19th (seemingly a self-released affair).

The band states: “This video is the culmination of years of our artistic vision and is rife with subtle metaphors and hidden meanings. We reference the works of Polanski, the philosophies of Aristotle, the cultural patois of Norman Lindsay…indeed, we stand on the shoulders of our intellectual forefathers. To watch this filmclip is to be enlightened. Gaze upon the shining future of entertainment, the light upon the hill

Zu – Ville Belmonte

We love a bit of the unusual at SDM. Step up Zu! Hailing from Italy, this avant-garde jazzcore troupe bring the weird in all 31+ flavours. And who needs vocals, when your acid drenched hurricane melts brains at 100 paces? 25 years after they recorded it, Zu have finally released The Lost Demo on vinyl and digital formats, through Subsound Records.

From the press release: “After two years of intense rehearsals, this tape was the first demo they sent out. The cassette circulated around so much that ZU themselves no longer could find a copy, until recently when one mysteriously reappeared, intact and still perfectly listenable: which, digitalized and mastered, becomes now, 25 years later, The Lost Demo.

Turbo – No Savior

Sometimes, all you need is some filthy old school. Turbo are here to prove that it’s still possible to tap into the comfortably accessible vein of sleaze-tinged thrash, and slather it with proper spit and gristle. These Canadians recently saw the July 12th release of their second album, Broke And Ugly, which includes the romping track, No Savior, which you can check out below. We’ve checked ahead, and the full record is a whole lotta fun!

The track was written by drummer Sylvain Coderre and vocalist/guitarist Evan Frizzle while both were going through nasty breakups. “The lyrics talk about that, and issue a warning of sorts to future ladyfriends: “I ain’t no savior, I’ll burn here forever”. It is definitely one of the album’s standout anthems.” adds the band.

Fourth Dominion – Lilim

The inner goth is coming out on this one. (I’ll admit, I wasn’t feeling the video to begin with, here, but the music kept me going). This is Lilim by Rochester, NY deathwave cadre, Fourth Dominion, coming off their album, Diana’s Day, released August 01st. It’s absolutely one for the old school dark souls, with more than a black tint of Sisters Of Mercy and the like.

The accompanying press release states “The video pays tribute to some of the band’s favorite films, which also served to inform the cover art for Diana’s Day. Keep your eyes peeled for references to films such as The Wicker Man, The Seventh Seal, The Vvitch, Alucarda, Black Sunday, and Häxan.
