Masonic Abyss – The Devil’s Hands

This week saw the release of new single, The Devil’s Hands, from one man, Dundee industrial project, Masonic Abyss.

Mastermind, Serotonin says he is “hyped to announce that the new track will be available across all streaming platforms“. The lyrics and song were written, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Serotonin, from his home studio. The lyrical content was inspired by what is felt in moments of extreme emotion, as well as the Halloween films, and the psychology of the fictional serial killer Michael Myers. ‘The Devil’s Hands’ is a blend of deeply rhythmic beats, atmospheric riffs, and psychotic sounding synths that all blend together to mesmerise the listener.

But who is this maniacal persona..?

Serotonin: “My alter-ego character Serotonin is a personal demon. He confronts everything on one hand, and is an outspoken in-your-face political activist on the other. The character is extreme in every fashion, and sees things in black and white. Serotonin has a very extreme, aggressive, violent, and psychotic persona. His morality is black and white; there is no middle ground. He likes to play with knives, and hold up a mirror to those that abuse the weak, and turn that hatred back on them. It mirrors my shy and reserved real life character.”

This paints a strong background picture, but how does that character play into the musical construction of these works?

S: “The music itself is about extreme, yet complex emotions, with a heavy dose of theatre to paint an emotionally violent landscape.”

“The worst of the psyche gets turned inside out, and put on display. Masonic Abyss is a safe artistic space for these emotions. At this point, these emotions are something I want to channel into this specific character, and express them visually as if I was making horror movies. Serotonin has started to come alive through photo shoots and music videos. That’s where he lives, that’s where we get to experience and uncover his psyche bit by bit. The character will develop more and more layers with each creative process that accompanies new music.“
